Omega-3 Fatty Acids may be beneficial in prevention of the spread of Prostate Cancer
by Will Ransom
Scientists revealed today that eating foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids may help reduce and prevent the spread of prostate cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in foods such as fish, fish oils, canola oil and flaxseed oil.
The benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids have been known for many years. Omega-3 and Omega-6 are two essential fatty acids that work together to improve a persons overall health. Omega-6 can be found in raw nuts and seeds.
As human being our bodies do not produce Omega-3 or Omega-6 fatty acids. We must eat these substances that are rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids to reap the benefits from them.
In the study scientists from the Paterson Institute at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, England determined that Omega-3 fatty acids where able to prevent the spread of the cancerous cells with prostate cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids may help to inhibit the spread of prostate cancer at the early stages of the disease.
Omega-6 fatty acids which can be found in vegetable oil, nuts and seeds increase the spread of the prostrate cancer cells into the bone marrow, but the Omega-3 blocked this spread. Since Omega-3 and Omega-6 work together to produce their beneficial effects a balance must be maintained when using the two. It was determined that using about half as much Omega-3 to Omega-6 was the most effective combination of the two fatty acids that would maintain the beneficial health effects and prevent the spread of the prostate cancer.
